Barry D. Caudill, PhD, has worked in substance abuse treatment
and research since 1972. Dr. Caudill specializes in research
that focuses on addiction treatment, substance abuse prevention,
relapse prevention, and harm reduction techniques. He has
served as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator
on more than a dozen studies funded by the National Institute
on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the National Institute
on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and other Federal Government agencies,
as well as private foundations and universities. Since 1994,
Dr. Caudill has served as a Senior Research Scientist, founder,
and Director of the Center for Studies on Alcohol at the Maryland
Alcohol Research Laboratory at Westat. In this capacity, Dr.
Caudill has served as the Principal Investigator on several
NIAAA projects. These include a study of alcohol risk prevention
in a national fraternity. This national study of college fraternities
in 98 communities across 30 States compares standard alcohol
risk prevention trainings with either enhanced trainings or
fraternities assigned to a waiting-list control group. Another
study examined risk factors and modeling effects in alcohol
consumption. Dr. Caudill has written and conducted more than
100 publications and conference presentations.
